Before commencing an orthodontic treatment the dentist must first make a proper diagnosis by taking some initial records to aid in the diagnostic process. A Lateral Cephalometric radiograph (side profile) is taken and from that a Bimler analysis is made to show the respective relationships of the cranial base to the teeth and to give an indication of any growth pattern present.
Impressions are taken so we articulated study models may be fabricated. These allow the dentist to assess the arch shape, width and symmetry and how each arch articulates with the opposing one.
Photographs are also taken at the beginning to look at the overall facial structure and side profile to assess for any under development of the differing facial areas. These are also taken at the end of treatment.
